Response to: “Bad Mistakes Make Good Employees Leave”

Original article – Bad Mistakes Make Good Employees Leave – Dr. Travis Bradberry

The item that speaks out to me in this article is about “not treating everyone equally”. The article written by Dr. James Bradberry states that treating all members of the team equally is actually a MISTAKE. Yet, most managers do this everyday. I have to say, I couldn’t agree more with the article.

Versus treating everyone equally, treat your employees equitably. Your star players certainly deserve a little extra (some praise here and there, a free lunch, priority on the schedule, etc). These are the people who make your life easier. In general, they are go-getters, self-starters, and need little attention or direction from you. Your time with these associates is better off using the three P’s: praise, prepare, and promote. Praise these associates and give thanks where it is due. Prepare these associates for their next goal or dream. Promote these associates to higher levels of responsibility.

Don’t worry, you will still have plenty of time to spend with your other associates as you coach them up into star players. More to come on that in a future blog…
